(G-SHOCK)

Presented by G-SHOCK

CASIO just upgraded G-SHOCK’s beloved G-STEEL series with the GM2110D, the watch brand’s first G-STEEL timepiece featuring a distinctive fusion of a metal bracelet and metal-covered bezel.

With its sleek design and ultra-tough construction, the GM2110D elevates G-SHOCK’s famously rugged timepieces with a refined, upscale aesthetic that offers horological enthusiasts a fresh take on an iconic watch.

(G-SHOCK)

The GM2110D draws inspiration from the GM2100 G-STEEL lineup, featuring a stainless-steel bezel covering a glass-fiber reinforced resin body, merging durability with a decidedly modern look. The octagonal bezel is forged, cut, and polished, displaying a harmonious mix of circular hairline finish on the top of the bezel and mirror finish that extend to the lug connection points.

(G-SHOCK)

Updating the metal-covered design, the GM2110D also introduces a handsome stainless-steel bracelet. It’s the first time that the 2100 series has featured a steel bracelet with a metal-covered bezel, further enhancing its functionality and beauty. The bracelet adds an elegant texture while maintaining a refined and minimalist aesthetic. The watch’s striking-yet-versatile design—at just 11.8mm thin—is suited for any occasion, effortlessly transitioning from casual outings to formal settings.

(G-SHOCK)

The GM2110D’s dial is crafted from brass and treated with both metal plating and color coatings. This painstaking process imparts a glossy, reflective finish that enhances the watch’s overall allure. Available in a veritable rainbow of vibrant shades, including orange, lime green, silver, sky blue, and navy, the dial offers a multitude of hues to choose from, while the recessed dial ring’s metallic finish adds depth and dimension. The refined treatment also infuses the watch with a captivating shine, further upgrading the dial’s sophisticated appearance.

The GM2110D merges timeless durability with modern elegance. Whether navigating daily adventures or attending formal events, the steely stunner delivers unparalleled performance and style, making it a standout choice for those seeking both refinement and resilience in equal measure.

The latest G-S GM2110D timepieces are equipped with G-SHOCK’s signature shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance, as well as World Time (38 cities), a 1/100-second stopwatch, Countdown Timer, five daily alarms and Double LED light (Super Illuminator).

G-SHOCK’s gorgeous new additions to the G-STEEL line—including the GM2110D-2AGM2110D-2BGM2110D-3AGM2110D-4A, and GM2110D-7A—are available now for $300 each at gshock.com, the G-SHOCK Soho store in New York City, and select jewelers and department stores nationwide.

(Red Wing Heritage)

Red Wing Heritage—the rugged Minnesota footwear brand’s classically styled sublabel—is reintroducing the Beckman boot, a beloved and sought-after style named after the company’s founder, Charles Beckman. In 1873, Beckman embarked on a treacherous journey from Germany to America, facing a harrowing shipwreck off the coast of Nova Scotia.

Upon arriving in Red Wing, Minnesota, he worked in a local tannery and eventually established his own shoe store. In 1905, he founded Red Wing Shoe Company, leaving an enduring legacy shaped by his legendarily challenging voyage.

(Red Wing Heritage)

The Beckman boot is designed to embody this legacy of quality and craftsmanship. It is meticulously constructed from premium materials, featuring Gro-Cord outsoles, originally developed for Red Wing Shoes in the 1920s and known for their durability, comfort, and traction.

(Red Wing Heritage)

Red Wing even released a video commemorating the re-release that traces Beckman’s origin story here.

The handsome boots are made with Excalibur leather—a polishable semi-aniline leather that develops a beautiful patina over time. Available in three rich shades—Black Cherry Excalibur, Black Excalibur, and Cigar Excalibur—the Beckman boot retails for $399. It’s available now at www.redwingshoes.com/heritage.

Jacob & Co. ‘Oil Pump’ Watch Features Intricate Oil Derrick Animation https://www.maxim.com/style/jacob-co-oil-pump-watch-features-intricate-oil-derrick-animation/ Thu, 29 Aug 2024 11:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=240806
(Jacob & Co.)

Five years after its initial release, Jacob & Co. has unveiled a revamped version of its monumentally eye-catching Oil Pump watch. This horological marvel, known for its intricate automaton depicting a working oil derrick, has been upgraded with cutting-edge enhancements that further elevate its functionality and design.

The Oil Pump watch still showcases the bobbing motion of the oil derrick, now activated by a pusher at the 1:30 position. This mesmerizing animation lasts for 35 seconds, bringing the watch to life on demand. The new Oil Pump is powered by the exclusive Jacob & Co. Manual-Winding JCAM53 caliber, boasting 450 components. It features a single-axis flying tourbillon, completing a full revolution in 60 seconds, allowing for a more compact and wearable design. Check out the Oil Pump in action in the video here:

The redesigned case has been reduced to 44mm in diameter and 18mm in height, making it more comfortable on the wrist while maintaining its over-the-top presence. The use of 18K rose gold and sapphire, along with a unique domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, highlights the luxurious craftsmanship associated with Jacob & Co.

Every detail on the dial has been meticulously crafted and hand-finished, transforming the oil extraction scene into a work of art. The hour and minute indicators are elegantly displayed with Roman numerals, surrounded by rose gold-plated derricks, barrels, and pipelines. The watch’s black alligator leather trap features 18K rose gold and a titanium buckle.

(Jacob & Co.)

The watch’s 72-hour power reserve is creatively displayed through a pressure gauge motif. The Oil Pump’s story is evident in every aspect, from the winding and time-setting via two bows on the case back to the sophisticated Incabloc shock protection system. With a water resistance of 30 meters, this timepiece is nearly as durable as it is head-turning.

Limited to just 88 pieces, the new Oil Pump exemplifies Jacob & Co.’s commitment to horological innovation, along with exorbitantly priced statement pieces (this one will set you back $288,000.) By modernizing the form while preserving the essence of the original, Jacob & Co. continues its effort to lead the category of automaton watches by blending tradition with the future.

‘Madden NFL 25’ Review: EA Sports Scores With Revamped Football Franchise https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/madden-nfl-25-review-ea-sports-scores-with-revamped-football-franchise/ Fri, 16 Aug 2024 15:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=239926 Madden NFL 25—not to be confused with 2013’s Madden 25, which was named to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary—is finally here. Boasting enhancements across many included game modes, Madden NFL 25 spikes the football with a notably tuned-up version of the NFL simulator that’s better and more engaging than ever.

Photo: EA

Last year’s Madden NFL 24 broke records in terms of the number of players and hours played, and Madden NFL 25 is looking to keep that obsessive engagement going. Whether it’s a quick game, an online competition, beginning a franchise, developing a custom player and team or assembling an ultimate team, Madden NFL 25 has plenty of features to entice players and keep them going until the Super Bowl and beyond.

For EA, there’s a new focus on authenticity in this year’s Madden. Presentation is, bar none, better than ever. Regardless of the game mode, gameplay is presented in a way that’s strikingly similar to watching an actual NFL game on TV.

Photo: EA

It’s not just about broadcast quality bumpers and replays either. EA has honed in on signature animations that are unique to individual players and imbued them with personal style, both on the field and in replays. Players like cover athlete Christian McCaffrey are almost indistinguishable from their real-life counterparts. So far, it’s been damn impressive.

Style isn’t just the highlight here. There’s plenty of substance too with these creative decisions also informing how the game moves. Linemen can call out adjustments when defensive threats become known. The deep and detailed playbooks are updated and expanded for every team in the league too, giving players the most intimate look behind the curtain on their home team.

Of course, none of this would amount to anything worthwhile without excellent physics. EA’s BOOM tech package enhances everything from ball physics to player collisions, informing the latter with individual player muscle strength and making tackles (or broken tackles) even more realistic.

Photo: EA

Couple all this with the ultra high-res graphics, pro commentary teams and new highlight reel controls (aka trick stick) for jaw-dropping on-field athleticism, Madden NFL 25 really feels like more of a simulator than a game, perhaps for the first time ever.

All the upgrades and attention to detail in core gameplay run throughout the modes of the game but the modes themselves benefit from noticeable improvements too. The fan favorite Franchise mode gets a boost with 70 different storylines that are dictated by each player’s managerial decisions. TeamBuilder, an amazing customization tool, allows players to upload their own logos and tweak every detail of their teams look, from uniforms to stadiums. Up to 32 teams can be created too so if a single team isn’t enough, creating an entire league from scratch is an insane but possible option.

Photo: EA

If a more personal creation is the goal, building a custom Superstar is a worthy endeavor. Full facial customization is available and Superstars can be built on default archetypes and then tailored from there. For the truly devout, there’s also an option to carry a player over from this year’s College Football 25 game that dropped a few weeks ago. Watching a created player go from NCAA rookie to top draft prospect to Super Bowl MVP across both games is integration that the die hard will love. The best part of it is that created players can be pit against each other in a 3v3 schoolyard style game to see how their creation stacks up against friends.

Photo: EA

There’s a lot to love in Madden NFL 25 with the only downside being that, as is often the case, this is very much another entry in the Madden franchise and not something brand new. What is new is worthy of praise. What returns is familiar and, at this point, makes up the backbone of the game which is so good at doing what it’s meant to do, there’s little left to want each year. The end result is an entry that truly earns the game’s status as a simulator and one that’s sure to delight fans of the NFL, its players and its culture and keep them playing until this time next year and maybe even beyond.

(Beats by Dre)

The top-shelf Beats Studio Pro over-the-ear headphones are getting a glow-up courtesy of Kim Kardashian. Following the sold-out success of the billionaire entrepreneur’s first collab with the electronics brand on the Beats Fits Pro earbuds in 2022, Kardashian is now dressing the most premium Beats by Dre product in her signature palette.

Available in Moon, Dune, and Earth hues, the Beats x Kim Studio Pro’s neutral tones are very similar to those that color Kardashian’s SKIMS shapewear. “I’m so excited we’re bringing these three popular, chic colors to Beats’ most iconic and advanced headphones,” said Kim Kardashian. “Beats Studio have always been a fashion statement, so I can’t wait to see how everyone styles them.”

To promote the launch, Kardashian teamed up with Jimmy Fallon in an amusing commercial depicting two ad pitches: a glossy, well-manicured “Beats by Kim” spot and a goofier “Beats by Jim” spot—watch it above. Meet The ‘Madden NFL 25’ 99 Club Roster of Game-Changing Players https://www.maxim.com/sports/meet-the-madden-nfl-25-99-club-roster-of-game-changing-players/ Fri, 02 Aug 2024 14:54:48 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=238950 Madden NFL 25 is building excitement for fans of the long-running official NFL simulator ahead of the game’s August 16 release. EA Sports has shared the names of elite players who make up this year’s coveted 99 Club. Here’s the complete list.

Tyreek Hill

After his monumental 2023 NFL season that set records within the Miami Dolphins organization (including being the first Dolphin to get a 99 rating in a Madden game) and saw him finish as the number two ranked wideout, Tyreek Hill has more than earned his 99 rating in Madden NFL 25. His inclusion in the 99 Club almost certainly guarantees that Hill’s incredible speed and ability to deliver in clutch moments will translate to his in-game persona.

Christian McCaffrey

Credit: EA Sports

Probably the least surprising player on this list considering he’s the cover athlete of Madden NFL 25, McCaffrey is a beast on the field. Without him, there’s zero chance the Niners saw the Super Bowl last year. Similarly, he was the player found on the most championship fantasy teams for the 2023 season. He’s an explosive runner with great instincts and reliable hands. If the goal is to make it to the promised land; in the NFL, Fantasy Football or Madden NFL 25, CMC is essential and that more than earns his 99.

Trent Williams

Credit: EA Sports

Linemen tend to be the unsung heroes of the NFL, doing the dirty work and heavy lifting that doesn’t often translate to accolades. Madden as a franchise bucks that trend by shining a spotlight on extraordinary players in all positions and no lineman deserves that honor more than Trent Williams. The 11-time pro-bowler contributed to the 49ers offense in a huge way, creating gaping holes for McCaffrey to exploit and never letting up a sack. For those who prefer the ground and pound approach to Madden, a 99 rated Williams will offer devastating results.

Travis Kelce

Credit: EA Sports

In a sea of NFL tight ends who flow in and out of relevance each year, Travis Kelce is a rock solid producer at the position, always ready to make incredible plays and give his team the boost they need in a tight spot. It’s a big reason he has three Super Bowl wins and has been rated 99 in Madden more than any other TE, ever. After helping take the Chiefs to the motherland this last season, of course he’s the only 99 rated TE in Madden NFL 25

Patrick Mahomes

Credit: EA Sports

Tying Tom Brady for the most years rated at 99, this will be the fourth time in five years that the Madden series has bestowed that honor on Mahomes. While it doesn’t hurt that he just put another Super Bowl Championship under his belt, the combination of Mahomes arm, vision and mobility after the snap had him angling for a high-90s rating anyway but the 99 puts him at the cream of the crop of this year’s Madden quarterback class. It’s a well deserved honor and one that will translate his particular set of intangibles into gameplay.

Ridley Scott Says ‘Gladiator II’ Opens With ‘Biggest Action Sequence’ He’s Ever Directed https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/ridley-scott-says-gladiator-ii-opens-with-biggest-action-sequence-hes-ever-directed/ Tue, 30 Jul 2024 14:13:46 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=238695
(Paul Mescal plays Lucius in Gladiator II from Paramount Pictures)

Legendary director Ridley Scott has revealed that the opening scene of Gladiator II showcases the “biggest action sequence” he’s ever overseen.

The filmmaker is known for orchestrating epic battle scenes, notably in the original Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005) and Napoleon (2023). But Scott says the opening stanza of his highly-anticipated swords-and-sandals sequel is his most impressive action achievement yet.

(Paramount Pictures)

“We begin the film with probably the biggest action sequence I’ve ever done,” Scott told Empire magazine. “Probably bigger than anything in Napoleon.”

Scott’s sequel to his 2000 epic starring Russell Crowe takes place more than 20 years after the original movie. The recently released trailer introduces a grown-up Lucius, the nephew of the late Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) and the son of Lucilla (again played by Connie Nielsen).

Since the first film, Lucius was sent by his mother to live on the northern coast of Africa to shield him from the “corruption and violence” of Rome. But he finds himself back in the ancient Italian arena when forces led by General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) invade his home in Numidia and take him captive.

Scott also shared with Empire how technology has improved moviemaking since he made the original Gladiator. “Computerization and AI—you have to embrace it.,” he said.

“I can have a computer read every molecule and wrinkle on a rhino and then cut it on a thick piece of plastic, absolutely as a rhino’s body, which is then tailored to a skeleton shape. I have this thing that can do 40 miles an hour, spin on the spot, wag its head and snarl. A two-ton rhino with a guy on its back! I mean, it’s a lot of fun.”

Gladiator II hits theaters on November 22. Watch the film’s first trailer above.

Charli XCX Is Still Riding High With ‘Brat Summer’ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/charli-xcx-is-riding-high-with-brat-summer/ Mon, 29 Jul 2024 10:36:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=238510 charli xcx agent provocateur rodeo promo
(Agent Provocateur)

There are decades where nothing happens, there are weeks where decades happen, and then, there’s the intersection of politics, an election year and pop star Charli XCX.

The former Maxim cover model declared newly-minted Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris to be “brat” in a viral post on X, and is now teasing more new music during “Brat Summer.”

  • Joan_Black_Christmas_2019_LR_CMYK

The sultry singer, who memorably modeled a rodeo-themed campaign for high-end lingerie line Agent Provocateur, has since seen her buzzy “Brat” designation dissected everywhere from TikTok to cable news political shows.

Brat Summer, in case you haven’t been paying attention, has been loosely defined by partying, independence and the lime green color and Arial font that graces the cover of Charli XCX’s album Brat, released in June to critical acclaim. The singer’s recent appearance at a Brooklyn album launch concert quickly went viral in its own way, capturing the attention of a Gen Z and Millennial-heavy crowd for its freewheeling independence and carefree vibe.

In a possible hint at new music, the “360” hitmaker captioned an Instagram post  “oh ? see u next week :)” — in response to claims by music outlet Pitchfork that “Brat Summer Is Dead.” In the “360” music video, Charli memorably wears Agent Provocateur, as do her famous friends Chloe Cherry and Gabriette.

Consequence of Sound noted of Brat’s iconography, “with its distinct chartreuse palette and frank typography, its aesthetic influence quickly grew beyond Charli’s listenership, and ultimately stepped right into the national spotlight.” Pitchfork noted the possibilities of Brat Summer “were manifold, from annoying your boyfriend on vacation to making chilled zucchini soup to waving to the “original 365 party girl,” the Statue of Liberty.”

Adding fuel to the viral fire, Pitchfork also declared that the trend “captured the hearts of not just Charli XCX fans (known as “Angels”) but a broad coalition of followers old and new,” including “Millennials clinging to false memories of early-noughties dirtbag dance music and “zoomers, who lost many of their precious hedonistic years to the pandemic lockdown.”

Rising pop singer Chappell Roan also got in on the fun, trumpeting “Brat” by sharing a photo holding the new Charli XCX album. After the past week, it’s clear that as long as Charli XCX declares the summer of “Brat” in play, be it teasing new music or taking over the online political conversation, consider this trend far from over.

Jimmy Buffett Recalls Wild 1970s Key West Literary Scene In ‘All That Is Sacred’ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/jimmy-buffett-recalls-wild-1970s-key-west-literary-scene-in-all-that-is-sacred/ Mon, 29 Jul 2024 09:40:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=238464

All That Is Sacred premiered last year at the Telluride Film Festival, and the YETI-created doc just released widely on YouTube. It’s a film that will appeal to lovers of fishing, literature, and the lightning in a bottle that was late 1960s and early 1970s Key West. Poignant interviews with singer Jimmy Buffett and writers Thomas McGuane and Guy de la Valdene, combined with archival footage, make a worthy epilogue for a place and time we owe some of our best books and music to—let alone our collective daydreams.

I spoke to director Scott Ballew about making the short film over two years. The inspiration first took root when a good friend gave him books by Tom McGuane and Jim Harrison. “I fell in love with their writing,” says Ballew, “and I just cold emailed Tom [McGuane] about making a film on him. The director then flew out to Montana and spent 8 hours with McGuane on his porch, earning his trust. “It became clear to me that this was a man who had some deep friendships, and that he hadn’t processed the loss of those friendships.” The biggest was with Jim Harrison, a fellow Michigan native and a close friend of McGuane’s for over 50 years. McGuane describes the friendship [and healthy competition] with Harrison as a “brain channel that is not there [anymore].”

Digging into the two writers’ shared past in Key West, Ballew went “down a rabbit hole” of the 1973 fishing film Tarpon, a little-known art film that features McGuane, Harrison, and even Jimmy Buffett—who also did the music for the film in exchange for a free trip to France. “You wouldn’t realize Jimmy Buffett is in it,” says Ballew. “You could watch the whole film and not know it was about anything other than Tarpon fishing on the flats around Key West.

Clockwise from left: Guy de la Valdene, Tom McGuane, and Richard Brautigan

Tarpon was not an easy film to find. YETI founder Ryan Seiders had one of the only known copies. “I think it was the only DVD he owned,” says Ballew, who knew Seiders because he started the film program for YETI, and has made nearly 100 outdoor films for the company. Tarpon became Ballew’s only visual representation of the era, and he restored and used extensive footage from it in his film.

“What my film ended up being, in a way, was making the film [Tarpon director] Christian Odasso wanted to make—the lives of these writers in Key West but told 50 years later. How fleeting that era was and what the friendships became.”

While making the movie, McGuane got injured and Ballew couldn’t film him. The director needed to pivot, and McGuane’s wife—Jimmy Buffett’s sister, Laurie—had keyed Buffett into the project, and he got excited about it. Ballew believes Buffett’s enthusiasm came from the fact that it offered a chance to tell his origin story in a way that his success had obscured over the years.

“Very few people are aware that [Buffett] was a gritty struggling writer and a vagabond,” says Ballew. “He played for beer, and you couldn’t get him to tune his guitar,” remembers McGuane in the film. A lifelong Buffett fan, Ballew describes his first meeting with Buffett—a dinner at the restaurant La Condesa in Ballew’s hometown of Austin—as “surreal.”

Jim Harrison (left) and Jimmy Buffett (right) at Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas National Par

Buffett was generous with his time, sitting for two interviews—one just six months before his passing. Buffett’s interviews take on far greater meaning in hindsight: “Losing people on a pretty regular basis now, I can’t believe that I am this old, but I feel a lot younger.”

Buffett passed away the night the film premiered. De la Valdene, the co-director of Tarpon and close friend of the gang who spoke movingly in Ballew’s film, died a week after it was finished. “They both got to see it before they died,” says Ballew.

For a 34-minute film, it packs in far more emotion and power than its running time might imply. I asked Ballew if he thought it gave some needed closure for the creative Key West crew of the late 1960s and early 1970s. “100 percent,” he said. “Jimmy started bawling one day thinking about Tom teaching his son how to fly fish. Tom got emotional thinking about Jim [Harrison]. I don’t think they’ve ever done that,” says Ballew. “They weren’t guys that sat around and thought about the good old days, but this film forced them to do that.”

McGuane echoes the same idea in the film: “You have these congeries of people that get together for one reason or another, and the astonishing thing about it is that people disperse,” recalls McGuane, “You didn’t know it at the time, you just thought life would always be that way.”

If the film looks back with wet eyes at times, it also looks back with a smile. “We’re lucky to have had it happen,” said McGuane, “Most of us feel those were the best years of our lives.”

‘A Complete Unknown’ Trailer: Timothée Chalamet Sings Bob Dylan In Biopic Teaser https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/a-complete-unknown-trailer-timothee-chalamet-sings-bob-dylan-in-biopic-teaser/ Thu, 25 Jul 2024 13:08:40 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=238374
(Searchlight Pictures)

Timothée Chalamet does his own singing while channeling Bob Dylan in the first trailer for A Complete Unknown, the upcoming movie about the legendary rocker by director James Mangold, the filmmaker behind Ford v. Ferrari, Logan and the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line.

Chalamet takes on Dylan’s 1960s classic “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” in the clip, which also features Monica Barbaro as singer Joan Baez, Elle Fanning as Dylan’s girlfriend Sylvie Russo (a fictionalized version of Suze Rotolo) and Edward Norton as folk pioneer Pete Seeger. Check out the film’s official synopsis below:

Set in the influential New York music scene of the early 60s, A COMPLETE UNKNOWN follows 19-year-old Minnesota musician Bob Dylan’s (Timothée Chalamet) meteoric rise as a folk singer to concert halls and the top of the charts–his songs and mystique becoming a worldwide sensation–culminating in his groundbreaking electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.

The New York Post reports that Chalamet’s singing in the trailer has already received mixed reviews on social media, but Mangold maintains that the Dune and Willy Wonka actor nailed it as Dylan. Oscar-nominated Mangold told Rolling Stone that he thought Chalamet’s performance was “miraculous.” He added, “And there were also moments where it felt like something was getting channeled. I don’t mean in mimicry. I mean in feeling.”

(Searchlight Pictures)

Mangold continued, “But there were also moments where Timmy would come up to me and go, ‘I think I lost Bob a little’ or I’d say, when that happens, ‘You’re losing him a little bit.’ And that was our code for drifting too much into yourself and not carrying some of those affectations and mannerisms that are part and parcel of being him.”

When the real Bob Dylan, 83, asked Mangold what the movie was about, Mangold recalled telling the rock legend, “It’s about a guy who’s choking to death in Minnesota, and leaves behind all his friends and family and reinvents himself in a brand-new place, makes new friends, builds a new family, becomes phenomenally successful, starts to choke to death again—and runs away.”

Mangold told Rolling Stone that Dylan replied, “I like that.”

Watch the first teaser trailer for A Complete Unknown, which has yet to receive a premiere date, below.
