Despite Rolex’s impressive athletic sponsorships from F1 to golf, Breitling has become the first luxury Swiss watchmaker to sign a deal with the league behind America’s favorite sport: the NFL. To inaugurate the partnership, Breitling launched a limited collection of Chronomat timepieces in 32 different colorways—one for each team in the league.

Every watch gets the same core signature elements that’s made the Chronomat pilot’s watch one of Breitling’s most popular models, including a 42mm stainless steel case with water resistance to 200 meters, a grippy onion crown, raised rider tabs at the 15-minute marks, three subdials, a date window at 6 o’clock, luminescent indices treated with Super-LumiNova, Breitling’s Caliber 01 chronometer movement, and either a classic rouleaux bracelet or rubber strap.

The designs diverge in color schemes according to their franchise’s colors—the Kansas City Chiefs variant gets a bright red dial with yellow hands, while the Miami Dolphins edition features an aqua blue dial and orange hands. Additionally, each team’s logo appears on the 60-minute chronograph subdial at 9 o’clock.

A full-fledged partnership with the world’s foremost football league may mark new territory for a Swiss watchmaker, but Breitling is no stranger to the gridiron. Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason has been a brand ambassador for over three decades, and current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence serves on Breitling’s “All-Star Squad.” Several other coaches and players, including Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, have also been known to sport Breitling timepieces.

In conjunction with the 2024 NFL season’s start, Oakley is recruiting Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes—as well as star Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson—to help sell its new Players Collection of fashionable and sporty sunglasses.

Oakley, which will serve as the official eyewear provider of the NFL through 2030, already has vast collection of league-branded lenses that includes designs for all 32 teams and a signature Patrick Mahomes line of upscale shades. The new Players Collection adds the classically styled Chaminade (based on the Montefrio) and the thick-framed Belleville (based on the Fatcat) silhouettes to Oakley’s gridiron-worthy selection, bridging “the gap between her intensity of the field and the sophistication of the tunnel walk.” Like the Oakley Football Shields used across the NFL, both styles employ Oakley’s Prizm Lens Tech, which is designed to enhance details and optimize contrast.

“NFL athletes not only move the game forward on the field, they drive culture with their unique style and energy off of it.  So we took inspiration from leading tastemakers in football and infused it with Oakley’s signature design DNA,” said Corey Hill, Head of Global Sports Marketing at Oakley. “Players Collection is about enabling athletes to be who they are off the field, complementing our on-field product innovation.”

The initial Players Collection offerings are available now at Oakley’s website—expect to see more seasonal styles and color combinations throughout 2024.

The hotel also has its own boats for tours and line fishing), and two actual villages in the development for upscale dining, morning coffee with a paper, a home-grown farmer’s market, and retail shopping. The Canoe Club is also home to one of the South’s most stunning restaurants, an epic ode to nautical style and Lowcountry cuisine. Situated on the May River, between Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Savannah, Georgia, the 200-key Montage hotel features two over-sized swimming pools, three diverse restaurants, multiple bars (including a basement “speakeasy”), and an award-winning spa. Bicycles and golf carts are supplied for traversing the sprawl of it all, including the old ruins of a turn-of-the-century 72-room mansion and high-society ballroom that set the sepia tone and time. From morning through night, all of the restaurants take their cues from traditional Lowcountry recipes. At the five-star white-tablecloth River House, regional dishes include plump crab cakes, oysters galore, as well as prime cuts of meats. Surf and turf, South Carolina style. The wine cellar features 2,500 labels, from which the sommeliers can provide their origins and suggested accompaniments for each. Jackets for men are recommended out of respect for the classic dining room and Old School etiquette, though not required.

Taking its name from its distinctly rare shape, Octagon, situated just off the gracious lobby, provides casually sharable fare. That includes locally sourced sushi and sashimi of all kinds, and a stellar burger. Après dinner, there is a s’mores bar by the fire pit, just past the screened porch where afternoon tea is served. As sumptuous as the food is, the hotel abides a health-conscious palate too, even down to gluten-free graham crackers.

One of the newest venues is Hush, the semi-secret bar reached through a covert entrance below the main restaurant. Mixologists know their stuff. The bar has an extensive collection of bourbons (naturally–it’s the South) and premium pours. This is your later-night drink Wednesdays through Saturday. Morning time, Fore & Aft , located along a poolside inland waterway, is a tranquil spot for cheese biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits, Hoppin’ John, and other indigenous fare. As its adjacent to an aviary, egrets and herons can be watched getting their own morning meals.

The pinewood floor Spa Montage is highly regarded, providing fitness classes, HydraFacials, a unisex hair salon, massages, and multitudinous spa treatments and a new light therapy bed, which helps with circulation. Each month the hotel organizes seminars, tastings, and dinners around a theme. Last January focused on Renewal. In February, Well Living was devoted to honoring Black heritage. Events, many of them complimentary to guests, often highlight locals who showcase their unique knowledge and talents.

And there are always new activations, such as the recent Veuve Clicquot Picnic + Pedal. Via this package, guests could venture out with a bottle of the finest Veuve Clicquot bubbly and a picnic of their choice to explore on the property’s complimentary bicycles. “We’ve mapped out all the best trails and picture perfect settings to spread out your blanket and enjoy the view,” the hotel notes. We’ll drink to that.

Last year’s Madden NFL 24 broke records in terms of the number of players and hours played, and Madden NFL 25 is looking to keep that obsessive engagement going. Whether it’s a quick game, an online competition, beginning a franchise, developing a custom player and team or assembling an ultimate team, Madden NFL 25 has plenty of features to entice players and keep them going until the Super Bowl and beyond. 

For EA, there’s a new focus on authenticity in this year’s Madden. Presentation is, bar none, better than ever. Regardless of the game mode, gameplay is presented in a way that’s strikingly similar to watching an actual NFL game on TV. 

It’s not just about broadcast quality bumpers and replays either. EA has honed in on signature animations that are unique to individual players and imbued them with personal style, both on the field and in replays. Players like cover athlete Christian McCaffrey are almost indistinguishable from their real-life counterparts. So far, it’s been damn impressive.

Style isn’t just the highlight here. There’s plenty of substance too with these creative decisions also informing how the game moves. Linemen can call out adjustments when defensive threats become known. The deep and detailed playbooks are updated and expanded for every team in the league too, giving players the most intimate look behind the curtain on their home team. 

Of course, none of this would amount to anything worthwhile without excellent physics. EA’s BOOM tech package enhances everything from ball physics to player collisions, informing the latter with individual player muscle strength and making tackles (or broken tackles) even more realistic. 

Couple all this with the ultra high-res graphics, pro commentary teams and new highlight reel controls (aka trick stick) for jaw-dropping on-field athleticism, Madden NFL 25 really feels like more of a simulator than a game, perhaps for the first time ever. 

All the upgrades and attention to detail in core gameplay run throughout the modes of the game but the modes themselves benefit from noticeable improvements too. The fan favorite Franchise mode gets a boost with 70 different storylines that are dictated by each player’s managerial decisions. TeamBuilder, an amazing customization tool, allows players to upload their own logos and tweak every detail of their teams look, from uniforms to stadiums. Up to 32 teams can be created too so if a single team isn’t enough, creating an entire league from scratch is an insane but possible option. 

If a more personal creation is the goal, building a custom Superstar is a worthy endeavor. Full facial customization is available and Superstars can be built on default archetypes and then tailored from there. For the truly devout, there’s also an option to carry a player over from this year’s College Football 25 game that dropped a few weeks ago. Watching a created player go from NCAA rookie to top draft prospect to Super Bowl MVP across both games is integration that the die hard will love. The best part of it is that created players can be pit against each other in a 3v3 schoolyard style game to see how their creation stacks up against friends. 

There’s a lot to love in Madden NFL 25 with the only downside being that, as is often the case, this is very much another entry in the Madden franchise and not something brand new. What is new is worthy of praise. What returns is familiar and, at this point, makes up the backbone of the game which is so good at doing what it’s meant to do, there’s little left to want each year. The end result is an entry that truly earns the game’s status as a simulator and one that’s sure to delight fans of the NFL, its players and its culture and keep them playing until this time next year and maybe even beyond.

Tyreek Hill

After his monumental 2023 NFL season that set records within the Miami Dolphins organization (including being the first Dolphin to get a 99 rating in a Madden game) and saw him finish as the number two ranked wideout, Tyreek Hill has more than earned his 99 rating in Madden NFL 25. His inclusion in the 99 Club almost certainly guarantees that Hill’s incredible speed and ability to deliver in clutch moments will translate to his in-game persona. 

Christian McCaffrey

Probably the least surprising player on this list considering he’s the cover athlete of Madden NFL 25, McCaffrey is a beast on the field. Without him, there’s zero chance the Niners saw the Super Bowl last year. Similarly, he was the player found on the most championship fantasy teams for the 2023 season. He’s an explosive runner with great instincts and reliable hands. If the goal is to make it to the promised land; in the NFL, Fantasy Football or Madden NFL 25, CMC is essential and that more than earns his 99. 

Trent Williams

Linemen tend to be the unsung heroes of the NFL, doing the dirty work and heavy lifting that doesn’t often translate to accolades. Madden as a franchise bucks that trend by shining a spotlight on extraordinary players in all positions and no lineman deserves that honor more than Trent Williams. The 11-time pro-bowler contributed to the 49ers offense in a huge way, creating gaping holes for McCaffrey to exploit and never letting up a sack. For those who prefer the ground and pound approach to Madden, a 99 rated Williams will offer devastating results. 

Travis Kelce

In a sea of NFL tight ends who flow in and out of relevance each year, Travis Kelce is a rock solid producer at the position, always ready to make incredible plays and give his team the boost they need in a tight spot. It’s a big reason he has three Super Bowl wins and has been rated 99 in Madden more than any other TE, ever. After helping take the Chiefs to the motherland this last season, of course he’s the only 99 rated TE in Madden NFL 25. 

Patrick Mahomes

Tying Tom Brady for the most years rated at 99, this will be the fourth time in five years that the Madden series has bestowed that honor on Mahomes. While it doesn’t hurt that he just put another Super Bowl Championship under his belt, the combination of Mahomes arm, vision and mobility after the snap had him angling for a high-90s rating anyway but the 99 puts him at the cream of the crop of this year’s Madden quarterback class. It’s a well deserved honor and one that will translate his particular set of intangibles into gameplay. 

Mike Tyson is taking a swing at magic mushrooms with a new “Mikeadelics” home-grow kit from his Tyson 2.0 cannabis company.

The boxing icon, podcaster and entrepreneur has long embraced the mind-bending benefits of psychedelics and wants to make it easier for his fans to grow psilocybin shrooms at home. “Psychedelics changed my whole life,” Tyson told Maxim. “I wouldn’t be boxing now if it wasn’t for psychedelics.” 

The Mikeadelics kit was designed by the shroom svengalis at Advanced Mycology, a company that uses a unique filter strip technology to maximize airflow and protect against bacteria and mold when growing mushrooms.

Tyson, 58, said he used magic mushrooms while training for his 2020 boxing exhibition with Roy Jones Jr., and hasn’t ruled out taking shrooms ahead of his upcoming bout with YouTuber-turned-pugilist Jake Paul, 27, which will be broadcast live on Netflix. 

Tyson recently suffered an ulcer flare-up that led to the Paul fight being rescheduled for Nov. 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The former heavyweight boxing champion said he would need to check with his doctor before ingesting shrooms while preparing for Paul, but noted that he likes to take them before working out. 

“It makes me comfortable being uncomfortable,” Tyson said of the altered state of consciousness induced by the drug. “It never puts me in an uncomfortable mode and it’s always challenging me. You just gotta ride with it until it’s over.”

Tyson has been outspoken about his appreciation of psychedelics. He previously invested in Wesana Health, a biotech company that is using psilocybin as a treatment for traumatic brain injuries. In 2021, Tyson credited his use of psychedelic toad venom with losing 100 pounds, resurrecting his boxing career, and reconnecting with his family.

Mikeadelics buyers will need to order their preferred mushroom genetics separately from Advanced Mycology here and then inject liquid shroom cultures into the soil inside the box. While psilocybin is still illegal on the federal level, the Drug Enforcement Agency has suggested that spores, which later produce psychedelic mushrooms, are legal to buy and ship. It’s only after the genetics are injected into dirt that mushrooms containing psilocybin grow inside the box. 

Colorado and Oregon are the currently the only states that have legalized psilocybin, but there has been a growing push to decriminalize it elsewhere in the wake of promising research into using psilocybin as a treatment for depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions. 

Cities including San Francisco and Washington D.C. have declared magic mushrooms to be a low priority for law enforcement, allowing psilocybin products to flourish. Utah lawmakers recently authorized a pilot program allowing supervised administration of psilocybin to treat behavioral health disorders at certain health care systems, according to the Washington Post. 

Companies and local governments across the country have invested millions into researching the potential benefits of psilocybin for mental health treatment and the FDA even called using psilocybin for treatment-resistant depression a “breakthrough therapy,” a designation meant to speed up research.

Tyson—who officially launches Mikeadelics with an appearance at the CHAMPS Tradeshow in Las Vegas on July 24— said he hoped that magic mushrooms would be legalized nationwide. “And I’m not just saying that from an entrepreneur perspective, I’m saying that from a health perspective,” Tyson said. “I think the planet would be different. I think everybody would be at their highest form of thinking.”

Each Tyson 2.0 Mikeadelics box includes a grow bag, instruction booklet, inoculation data label, alcohol wipe and Mylar storage bag with a dry pack to store dried mushrooms. Every kit yields roughly 1/2 ounce of mushrooms, with the potential for up to three harvests per bag. It takes six to eight weeks to grow and the box retails for $50, not including the injectable mushroom culture. 

Tyson said he has personally tested Mikedelics shrooms once so far. “The journey was well worth it,” he said. “I really enjoyed myself.” 

Mikeadelics is the first magic mushroom release from Tyson 2.0, which is operated by Carma HoldCo, a company that also licenses cannabis brands for pro wrestler Ric Flair and the rapper Future.

College Football 25 arrives with core gameplay that’ll be familiar to any Madden fan but features the unique aspects of CampusIQ system that hones in on the individuality of each of the 134 FBS teams and imbues the game with home field advantages, diverse play styles and player wear-and-tear specific to a NCAA-focused game. 

The game is easy enough to pick up and play but two game modes, Road to Glory and Dynasty, are the ones to focus on here. Road to Glory is the long-term player mode where performance on the field can eventually lead to a National Championship and coveted win of the Heisman Trophy. Dynasty instead focuses on off-the-field coaching and managerial decisions that’ll take a team from underdog to national champs.

Fans of performative pugilism will still get to see Jake Paul step in the ring with a combat sports veteran next month—but it won’t be Mike Tyson.

The YouTuber-turned-prizefighter was originally slated to fight Tyson—who turns 58 this month—live on Netflix on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, but medical issues forced the legendary heavyweight to withdraw and postpone the match until November 15.

Instead of squandering his training camp and the date, Paul has elected to face off against Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship champ and former UFC brawler “Platinum” Mike Perry in an eight-round cruiserweight bout at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, according to ESPN.

“When Paul vs. Tyson was rescheduled, I knew immediately that I wanted to still fight on Saturday, July 20. Now, as I prepare for my fight against Iron Mike, there’s no better opponent for me than Mike Perry,” Paul said in a statement to ESPN.

“He’s a proven knockout artist who has shown to be a maniac in and out of the ring. This is the perfect experience for me to gan in advance of facing Mike Tyson. But getting that experience comes with risk. Those who know me know I’m a risk taker and while ‘Platinum’ Perry might try to end me, I’m ‘Titanium’ Jake Paul and I fear no man.

“I’m going to get the W and give everyone a preview of what I’m bringing to the ring against Mike Tyson. Tune in on DAZN PPV as I return to Tampa and send ‘Platinum’ Perry the Platypus back to bare knuckle for good.”

Perry, 32, held a UFC record of 7-8 when he transitioned to the BKFC in 2021. He’s since become the one of the promotion’s fiercest competitors, beating former UFC champions Luke Rockhold and Eddie Alvarez to earn the symbolic “King of Violence” championship, ESPN reports.

Perry’s active status as a fighter, coupled with fact that he’s relatively close in age to the 27-year-old Paul, should make for one of the more compelling exhibition bouts the sport has seen recently.

“Jake Paul claims he fears no man, but on Saturday, July 20, the world will see the truth: He just made the worst mistake of his life in trying to get through me before Iron Mike,” Perry said. “I’m going to make it look easy on Saturday, July 20, and I’m going to teach Jake Paul the most he’s ever learned about fighting.”
